Brewers reportedly sign OF prospect Luis Lara to 7-year, $31 million extension

The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly signing outfield prospect Luis Lara to a seven-year, $31 million extension, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Lara’s new deal includes three club options and can max out at $79 million if Milwaukee uses all three options.

This is the latest long-term extension that Milwaukee has given out for a player who has yet to play in the majors. Ahead of the 2026 season, the Brewers signed shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt to an eight-year, $50.75 million extension.

Neither Lara nor Pratt has made the big league club yet, and both are expected to remain in Triple-A for the time being, per Passan.

The extension largely just eats up Lara’s pre-arbitration and arbitration years. If Milwaukee ends up picking up all of the club options, though, the outfielder would not hit free agency until 2036, when he is 31 years old.

Lara spent the entire 2024 season with the Brewers’ Double-A affiliate. He played in 136 games and hit .257 with 132 hits, 40 RBI and 44 stolen bases.

The outfielder was invited to Spring Training this past offseason. Afterward, he was assigned to the club’s Triple-A affiliate, where he has spent the entirety of this season so far.

The 21-year-old has played in 56 games this season and is mashing the ball. He is slashing .338/.447/.500 with seven home runs and 27 RBI.
