Brewers SP Jacob Misiorowski strikes out 12 of first 14 batters vs. Rockies

Jacob Misiorowski has become must-see television when he takes the mound.

The second-year starting pitcher got the nod Sunday in the Milwaukee Brewers' 11-2 series-clinching win over the Colorado Rockies.

Misiorowski was on fire to begin the game, throwing 13 pitches faster than 100 mph in the first inning. The Rockies struggled at the plate to figure him out, and the Brewers ace struck out 12 of the first 14 batters he faced in the game, with 11 coming in the first four innings.

Sarah Langs reported that it was the first time since 1969 that a pitcher struck out 11 batters without allowing a hit in the first four innings of a game.

With 11 strikeouts through 12 batters, Misiorowski was on a potential record-setting pace. The record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game is 20 strikeouts, held by Roger Clemens, Kerry Wood, Randy Johnson and Max Scherzer. Unfortunately for the ace, his strikeout pace slowed once he got into the fifth inning.

The lone Rockie who didn't strike out in the first four innings was right fielder Troy Johnston, who flew out to center field. The Brewers starter had struck out seven in a row before Johnston put one into play.

Misiorowski took a perfect game into the fifth inning. After getting two outs, one being another strikeout, Colorado's Cole Carrigg launched a home run to left field. While it put the Rockies on the board, it took some pressure off the Brewers pitcher, who didn't have the pressure of perfection looming over him anymore.

After 83 pitches through five innings, Misiorowski was pulled from the game, ending any chance at history. He finished with 1 hit, 1 earned run and 12 strikeouts as Chad Patrick took over from the bullpen. Misiorowski notched his 11th win of the season.

The pitcher has started 20 games this season. He has tallied an 11-4 record with a 1.58 ERA, currently leading MLB.

Misiorowski set the record earlier this season by throwing the fastest pitch by a starting pitcher in MLB history at 105.5 mph. He also set the record for most 100+ mph pitches in a single game, with 57 against the St. Louis Cardinals in May.

The second-year starter is considered a frontrunner for the NL Cy Young Award if he maintains this dominance through the end of the season.
