Jaguars, TE Brenton Strange reportedly agree to 3-year extension worth up to $48 million

The Jacksonville Jaguars invested in one of Trevor Lawrence’s favorite targets on Wednesday. They’re signing tight end Brenton Strange to a three-year extension that’s worth up to $48 million and includes $25 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Mike Garofolo.

Despite playing in only 12 games last season, Strange ranked third on the team with 46 receptions and 540 receiving yards. He hauled in a trio of touchdown passes, too, as the 25-year-old Penn State product built on a breakout 2024 campaign, in which he first reached the 40-catch, 400-yard receiving marks.

Strange, who had been scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026 season, figures to be an important piece of Liam Coen’s team going forward.

The 2023 second-round pick is now reportedly under contract through the 2029 season.

Strange turned heads at the beginning of the 2025 campaign, Coen’s first as head coach. Over the first four games, as the Jaguars stormed out to a 3-1 start, the 6-foot-4, 253-pound tight end pulled in 19 receptions for 182 yards. In each of the last two of those outings, he snagged six passes.

During a Week 5 “Monday Night Football” win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Strange suffered a hip injury. At the time, he led the Jaguars with 20 catches on the season. Jacksonville wound up placing him on injured reserve the following day.

In late November, the Jaguars activated him off IR leading up to a Week 12 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. After being sidelined for five consecutive games, Strange picked up where he left off earlier in the fall, reeling in five passes for 93 yards in an overtime victory versus the Cardinals.

All three of Strange’s receiving touchdowns last season arrived in the final six contests. He notched one of them amid a six-catch, 52-yard performance in the regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans.

Along with former Penn State teammate Parker Washington, and eventually midseason trade acquisition Jakobi Meyers, Strange emerged as one of Lawrence’s most reliable receivers during Jacksonville’s bounce-back, statement-making 13-4 season.
