Longtime Broncos S Justin Simmons announces retirement after 9 NFL seasons

Longtime Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons announced his retirement after nine NFL seasons on Wednesday.

“Being a Denver Bronco was more than just a team,” Simmons said in a video posted on social media by the team. “It was my heart, my home and my story.”

Simmons, 32, played eight of his nine seasons with the Broncos before being released and joining the Atlanta Falcons in 2024. He did not play during the 2025 season.

A third-round pick in 2016 out of Boston College, Simmons became a four-time NFL All-Pro, two-time Pro Bowler and a three-time Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee. He would lead the NFL in interceptions with six during the 2022 season — a season in which he was limited to only 12 games due to a quad injury.

Simmons ends his NFL career with 666 total tackles, 71 pass deflections, 32 career interceptions, and 4.5 sacks in 134 career games.
