Masters 2026: Shane Lowry erupts after hitting a hole-in-one Saturday at Augusta National

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The roars were loud, and at Augusta that usually means one thing: a hole-in-one.

But where?

Deep within the Augusta National grounds, there is a confluence of greens — 5, 6, 15 and 16 all within a pitching wedge of each other. And when the roar came, those not at 6 wondered … what happened?

Turns out, Shane Lowry happened.

Lowry was absolutely perfect from the tee box at the par-3 sixth Saturday afternoon. His tee shot landed right in the center of the green, hopped twice and rolled right into the cup.

Naturally, Lowry erupted back on the tee box.

It wasn’t until Lowry’s score flipped from -6 to -8 on the boards that much of the crowd knew.

That pushed Lowry into a tie for second place at the time. He still trailed leader Rory McIlroy, who started the day with a six-shot lead, by four.

That was the seventh hole-in-one all time at the sixth hole at Augusta National. It also marked Lowry’s second career ace at the Masters, following one he hit at the 16th a decade ago.

Remarkably, that’s just the latest hole-in-one that Lowry has hit. He made one earlier this season in the final round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open earlier on the PGA Tour. He also has several aces on notable holes throughout the golf world, including at No. 7 at Pebble Beach and at the iconic island green at TPC Sawgrass.

Lowry, after a 2-under opening round, posted a 3-under 69 on Friday to get to 5-under for the week. The Irishman has won three times on the PGA Tour in his career, including at the British Open in 2019, and his best Masters run came in 2022 when he finished T3. Lowry entered the week at No. 32 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

While Lowry may not slip on the green jacket this week at Augusta National, considering the position McIlroy put himself in at the midway point of the major championship, he does have yet another ace to his name.
