The Philadelphia Phillies’ outfield will look different for the foreseeable future. Adolis García, who has started 63 games in right field for the Phillies this season, has landed on the 60-day injured list with a right lat tear, the team announced on Friday ahead of its series opener on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers.

García suffered the injury while making a throw to the plate on Wednesday during the seventh inning of a 7-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

In a corresponding move, Philadelphia recalled outfield prospect Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old Rincones could make his MLB debut versus the Brewers. Although the Phillies acquired veteran outfielder Derek Hill, 30, in a trade with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, Rincones is a lefty, and the Phillies are facing right-handed flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski on Friday night.

Hill, who bats righty, is expected to spend time in center and right field for the Phillies when they're facing left-handed pitching, according to The Athletic’s Matt Gelb, who also reported on Thursday that Philadelphia was interested in Hill even before García's shoulder issue.

García has struggled mightily as a hitter this season. He's batting a meager .195 with seven homers and 21 RBI. He has also struck out 84 times, the second-most of any player on the team.

Phillies outfielders, collectively, have toiled at the plate in 2026. Brandon Marsh, who's fifth in the majors with a .326 batting average, stands out as the exception.
